Welcome
from the College Principal
Brisbane
Water Secondary College is a comprehensive, coeducational, 7-12 high
school located on the Woy Woy peninsula on the Central Coast of
NSW. It takes its name from the beautiful body of water on
which the peninsula is
situated.
The
college was established in 2002 across two campuses to provide age
appropriate teaching and learning environments for the cohort of
students enrolled on each, and to greatly increase curricular and
extra curricular offerings.
The
Middle School Campus at Umina caters for students in Years 7 to 9
and emphasises team based teaching and learning, concentration on
learning skills and basic competencies, and the development of
confidence and leadership skills in students. Students and teaching
staff are grouped in teams so that a closer relationship can be
formed between teacher and student. An outstanding transition
program operates for students moving from Year 6 to Year 7.
The
Senior Campus at Woy Woy caters for students in Years 10-12 and
emphasises the preparation of students for the major external
credentialing of the School Certificate and the Higher School
Certificate. In the senior years over 50 different Board of Studies
courses are taught, including all of the vocational education
frameworks. Students also have access to TAFE and University courses
as part of their HSC. A further major focus is the preparation of
students for the important passage from school to the wider world of
further education and training, employment, and participative
citizenship.
Both
campuses offer a comprehensive extra curricular program comprising
both college wide and campus
based activities.
Since
its establishment the college has demonstrated outstanding
improvement in student learning outcomes and is now among the best
in the Hunter Central Coast Region for student improvement. As well
as improvement in external examinations at each Stage of learning,
college students have achieved outstandingly in sporting, artistic,
and performance fields and have represented the college
outstandingly in citizenship within the community. When seen in the
full college uniform, which is compulsory, students present a
magnificent image which reflects the strong values which the college
promotes and the high expectations which the college has of them.
The
college has undergone a substantial building and refurbishment
program over the past four years and each campus now boasts a
pleasant learning environment particularly suited to the cohort of
students enrolled there.
The
college is supported by an enthusiastic parent group and by many
community and business organisations within the local community and
far beyond. All staff are highly qualified and dedicated to
supporting and developing students to their fullest potential.
I
recommend the college to all potential students and their families
as an outstanding learning community where committed students can
realise their full learning and personal potential.
